LEITCHFIELD, Ky. — Authorities in Grayson County are trying to help parents protect their children after receiving concerning reports of explicit images of children being shared online.
The Leitchfield Police Department said its school resource officers have become “inundated at times” with reports of nude images of students being shared on social media sites like Instagram and Snapchat.
“If they have made the ill-advised decision to share explicit photos, talk to your kids about it,” the department said.
Officials said there may be a way to remove the images from the internet using a free tool provided by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
“Police may be able to investigate malicious activity, but we can never guarantee that we have found or removed every example of that photo from every ser that has accessed it,” Leitchfield Police said. “This link may help you.”
If a parent believes any explicit images of their child have already been shared online, in addition to using the “Take It Down” service, make a report here.
