LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Four people were arrested after allegedly beating a blind man and stealing his belongings.
On June 8, Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) was dispatched to the area of 40th and Hale on a report of a carjacking.
According to a police report, the victim told officers he was driven from Radcliff to Louisville by his acquaintance who drove his truck because he is completely blind.
He explained to officers that they met up with a woman and two men. Once they all met up, one of the men, Deshawn Cleavor, started driving them all in the truck. The victim said that one of the people said something about dropping their phone under a seat, so Deshawn pulled to the side of the road.
Court documents say that Deshawn allegedly pulled the victim from the truck, punched and kicked him and took the victim's phone and wallet before driving away in the truck -- leaving the victim on the side of the road.
LMPD said the victim had been beaten "pretty badly." He was transported to UofL Hospital for treatment.
The investigation revealed the stolen vehicle was parked behind the Budgetel Inn, located at 3304 Bardstown Road.
Police said surveillance footage showed Deshawn, Stephon Cleavor, Louis Jones and Misty Slater entering a room at the hotel. LMPD's SWAT team extracted the suspects without further incident.
All four were arrested and charged with first-degree robbery.
"Shout out to 2nd Division Patrol and Detectives, SWAT and 6th Division Impact for working together arresting these alleged violent suspects and getting them off the streets!" LMPD said in a post on Facebook.
