LOUISVILLE, KY. (WHAS 11)-- A 7-year-old boy, identified as Dequante William Lamarr Hobbs Jr. by the Jefferson County Coroner's office, was shot and killed in Louisville Sunday night.
Dequante was shot inside a home on the 2100 block of West Madison Street near the corner of Dr. W.J. Hodges which is in the Russell Neighborhood.
Police responded just before 8:30 p.m. Sunday. The Louisville Metro Police Department says a fight broke out behind the boy's home. At one point during the fight, a gun was pulled and at least one shot was fired.
Dequante was struck by a stray bullet from that incident, LMPD says. The boy was in his home eating and playing on his tablet before bedtime, according to police.

He was taken to Norton Children's Hospital where he underwent surgery but later died.
"Last night was absolutely horrible. Horrible for the family to go through, horrible for our officers. Horrible for everyone," Lt. Emily McKinely of LMPD's Homicide Unit, said.

LMPD says there were other people inside that home who called 911. Police said the Dequante's mother and grandmother were home at the time. They performed CPR on the 7-year-old until EMS arrived.

His mother called him "Q". She says he would be going into the second grade next year.
Dequante's mother says he was a proud big brother to his baby sister and he loved basketball. Now she wants the shooter to come forward.
There are no arrests in this case and the LMPD major crimes are investigating.
Officers said they aren't getting a lot of cooperation from people who were involved in the fight that led to the gunfire.
“If this doesn’t wake anybody up, then I don’t know what will," McKinely said.
The coroner's office says funeral arrangements are pending at this time.
