New Albany man, 21, charged with murder in June fatal Russell neighborhood shooting

Police said surveillance video helped lead investigators to a suspect.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — More than two months after a woman was gunned down in the Russell neighborhood, Metro Police have made an arrest.

Isaac Summers, 21, has been charged with complicity to murder.

Arrest records state Summers and an unnamed passenger fired a gun multiple times around 26th and West Market Street striking Deriah Young on June 28.

Young was found by officers at the scene with gunshot wounds to the arm and torso.

She was taken to the hospital where she later died from her injuries.

Investigators obtained surveillance video, showing “a white Dodge Dakota with distinctive damage” circling the area before the shooting. That vehicle was traced back to Summers.

The video also showed Young and two others waiting at the bus stop when Summers and the passenger began firing. Young was hit by gunfire. Police said another person was also struck but they fled on foot before police arrived.

A search warrant was used to go through Summers’ phone and records showed he was in the area at the time of the shooting.

Summers was apprehended Monday afternoon.

He is currently being held at Metro Corrections and will be arraigned on Tuesday.
