LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man died by suicide Sunday after leading Louisville Metro Police on a high-speed chase through multiple counties.
Around 9:30 a.m., LMPD attempted to make a traffic stop on a man with outstanding warrants on Dixie Highway at Ralph Avenue. According to a news release, the man fled from the scene.
LMPD air units were able to locate the suspect's vehicle.
Police claim the man led the pursuit across several divisions throughout Louisville and into Oldham County before traveling at a high rate of speed back into Louisville. According to police, the vehicle crashed into a parked car on 39th Street and Broadway, but continued driving.
Moments later, the vehicle returned to the same area where the parked car was struck, and the suspect sustained a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the news release.
The LMPD Public Integrity Unit is investigating.
A second collision occurred involving a LMPD officer during the pursuit at 22nd Street at Broadway. Officers said the two patients from the other vehicle were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The LMPD officer was not injured.
