Louisville grand jury indicts 3 men after LMPD officer shot in September

Officer Brandon Haley was shot in the chest while conducting a traffic stop in the Chickasaw neighborhood earlier this year.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Months after a Louisville Metro Police officer was shot in the line of duty, a grand jury has returned an indictment against three men charged in connection to the shooting.

Officer Brandon Haley was shot in the chest while conducting a traffic stop on Sept. 7 in the Chickasaw neighborhood.

On Thursday, Nov. 30, a Louisville grand jury returned indictments against three of those men, including the man accused of shooting Haley.

Dominique Thompson, 27, was indicted on attempted murder of a police officer, first-degree assault on a police officer, wanton endangerment, trafficking in controlled substances (meth), trafficking in controlled substances (heroin), three counts of possession of a handgun as a prohibited person, possession of a firearm as a prohibited person, receiving stolen property, tampering with physical evidence and resisting arrest.

Jaquan Ransom, 28, was indicted possession of a firearm as a prohibited person and resisting arrest.

Jemond Groves, 21, was indicted on possession of a handgun as a prohibited person and third-degree criminal trespassing.

While the injured officer was rushed to the hospital, an hours-long standoff began between LMPD and the people inside the home where the shots came from.

Once authorities were able to search the home, they found a stash of guns and drugs, including meth, heroin and fentanyl. Investigators seized 9 firearms, 4 handguns and 5 rifles -- two of which were stolen.

Five men were arrested in connection to the shooting. It's unclear if the other two men may be indicted.

Officer Haley was released from the hospital back on Sept. 25.
