LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police Department's SWAT team responded Friday after a man involved in a car crash fled on foot and pulled out a handgun.

At about 11 a.m., LMPD officers responded to a non-injury collision near Bardstown Road and Douglas Boulevard, according to an LMPD news release.

While officers were investigating the collision, a driver from one of the vehicles involved in the crash fled from officers on foot.

Now at the intersection of Spring Drive and Village Drive, officers approached the man when he pulled out a handgun and officers backed off.

Authorities say the officers began a dialogue with the man. Due to the "volatile situation," the officers asked SWAT for assistance.

Officers continued their dialogue with the man, according to the news release. Eventually, he dropped the weapon and was taken into custody.

The man was taken to UofL Hospital for a medical evaluation. No charges are expected at this time, LMPD officials say.
