LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man charged with attempted murder was caught by police last week, more than three months after police said he cut off his home incarceration bracelet mid-trial.
Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) arrested Vernon Jackson, 42, after a police chase near Shively, just south of I-264 on June 20. According to court documents, police attempted to pull Jackson over for having overly-tinted windows.
Jackson then "made a bunch of turns" trying to get away from police, got out of his vehicle and ran before being caught on Oakwood Avenue, the citation added.
Authorities had been looking for Jackson since March 7, when he reportedly escaped home incarceration during an attempted murder trial.
Jackson is charged for a shooting outside Premier Gentleman's Club on 7th Street Road in Shively on April 9, 2021. Jackson was allegedly in the club, when another shooting broke out, causing everyone to be kicked out of the club.
Authorities said he became mad that he was not getting a refund for the short time he spent in the club and allegedly chased a bouncer down an alley and shot them. His original arrest citation said the bouncer was hit in the "extremities and abdomen" and was hospitalized. The bouncer identified Jackson, which led to his arrest.
Jackson was given a $35,000 bond with home incarceration if posted on Feb. 10, 2023.
His trial began in the spring of 2024 and on March 7, he was ordered to appear in court. On that day, the attorneys met and told the judge Jackson was not coming because he had cut off his ankle monitor.
Jackson's attempted murder case has been reactivated and he has a pretrial conference date on July 25. He will also be in court on July 1 for his charges of cutting his ankle monitor, fleeing police, and a misdemeanor for tinted windows.
The Jefferson County Commonwealth's Attorney's office and LMPD both declined to interview on these developments Tuesday.
