LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Several Louisville men have been indicted on numerous criminal charges for allegedly participating in organized crime.
Commonwealth's Attorney Gerina Whethers said a Jefferson County Grand Jury returned an indictment with more than two dozen criminal charges against seven individuals linked to multiple crimes, and each other, in one massive case.
Jacob Bell, Lawrence Bibbs, Malik Birdsong, Robert Thomas, Thomas Wallace, Reginald Webster Jr., and Demetrious Wiley Jr. have all been charged with one count of complicity to criminal syndication and engaging in organized crime.
Each man faces additional charges, totaling 30 in all, primarily related to possession of stolen cars and guns.
"Gang and group activity creates a nexus of crime in communities: a driver of more and more illegal activity that sweeps up more and more innocent victims over time," Whethers said in a news release on Tuesday. "This is just one of many cases in which we're taking serious steps to keep gang members off the streets."
The commonwealth's attorney's office said Bell, Webster and Wiley have all previously been convicted of criminal syndication and were on probation at the time of the events they're accused of participating in occurred.
Webster and Wiley have had their probation revoked and have now been sentenced to prison. A hearing to consider revoking Bell's probation has been scheduled for Nov. 25, Whethers said.
The first pre-trial hearing in this case is scheduled for Dec. 11.
