LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man has been arrested after police said DNA linked him to a violent attack in southwest Jefferson County over the summer

The Louisville Metro Police Department responded to a report of a robbery and sexual assault in the 6800 block of Yazoo Street on July 23. After a thorough investigation using DNA testing, LMPD's Sex Crimes Unit arrested 22-year-old Christopher Thompson and charged him with robbery and sodomy.

Officers said a woman told them Thompson pointed a gun at her and forced her into the passenger seat of her own vehicle.

Authorities said he drove the woman to a parking lot at gunpoint, sexually assaulted her, then drove to an ATM and made her withdraw money from her account before sexually assaulting her again.

Police said the area that this violent attack happened in was the same area where multiple incidents of women being assaulted and robbed had been reported last summer.

However, LMPD said they aren't implying that Thompson is linked to all of those attacks -- only the one for which he is charged. The other cases remain open and active.

Officers reported a total of six women have been assaulted in the southwest Louisville area. All of the assaults took place overnight, between midnight and 5 a.m., in and near the Pleasure Ridge Park and Valley Station areas.

Thompson pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Wednesday morning and was issued a $500,000 bond.

He's currently booked at Metro Corrections.
