LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man was sentenced to three decades of prison time for a 2021 stabbing that left a woman dead.

On Wednesday, Commonwealth's Attorney Gerina D. Whethers announced that Lamon L. Greene pleaded guilty to stabbing a woman to death over three years ago.

He was charged with murder and received a 30-year prison sentence for the charge.

“Our community is always safer when those who would seek to do others harm are off the streets,” said Whethers. “Our pursuit of justice for victims and their families who suffer as a consequence of terrible crimes is unwavering.”

On Feb. 16, 2021, Louisville Metro police responded to a stabbing at 4600 Southern Parkway after the victim, Melinda Goosby, told 911 dispatch that she was being stabbed.

Officers on scene found Goosby and Greene inside the apartment. Authorities say they both had injuries and Goosby told officers that Greene had stabbed her.

Goosby was taken to UofL Hospital where she died shortly after. According to the medical examiner, she was stabbed 78 times.

Greene was also taken to the hospital following the attack. A doctor told officers he had superficial wounds to his neck, however all but one of the wounds were consistent with being self-inflicted.

Authorities say Goosby and Greene were dating at the time of the stabbing.
