Juvenile shot in stomach near Louisville waterfront expected to survive, shooting believed to be targeted

Mayor Craig Greenberg said it was believed to be a targeted attack and not random.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Mayor Craig Greenberg said the juvenile shot in Louisville Saturday night is expected to survive

According to Louisville Metro Police in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, a juvenile male was shot in the stomach near the Purple Lot located on River Road directly under I-65. Large crowds gathered along the waterfront all day and night for the annual Thunder Over Louisville event.

At an event at the Louisville Zoo Sunday morning, Greenberg said it was believed to be a targeted attack and not random. He added that the victims name was shouted out before he got shot. River Road near downtown was closed following the shooting.

"Help us hold people accountable who are causing violence in our city," Greenberg said.

According to police, the incident was reported about 10:15 p.m. There are no known suspects.

"There are some people who know what happened. I encourage anyone, if you saw the shooting, if you're aware of what happened, please let us know. There are far too many targeted shootings that happen in our city that people see and don't provide information to us," Greenberg said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the anonymous tip line at 502-574-5673.

"That is a very unfortunate end to what was otherwise an amazing day for so many people from across our entire city and region who came together to celebrate Thunder Over Louisville," Greenberg said.
