LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two Louisville men received lengthy federal prison sentences recently for charges related to drugs, weapons and stolen property.
Trey Joshua Shoats, 30, received a 21-year prison sentence Wednesday for the following charges:
- Conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
- Possession with the intent to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
- Four counts of distribution of 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
- Possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.
- Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
- Illegal possession of a machine gun.
- Six counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Shoats was barred from possessing a gun due to previous felony drug charges in 2017 and 2020. He is subject to six years of supervised release upon the completion of his prison term.
Ward Reed, 49, was sentenced Oct. 26 to 10 years in federal prison for the following charges:
- Conspiracy to distribute 400 grams or more of fentanyl.
- Possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl.
- Five counts of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
He is subject to five years of supervised release following his prison term.
There is no parole in the federal system.
These cases were investigated by the FBI and Louisville Metro Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Erin McKenzie and Marisa Ford prosecuted the cases.
