Louisville police arrest 23-year-old in connection to January homicide

Tysean Effinger was charged with murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Police have arrested a man in connection to a homicide in the Russell neighborhood that happened earlier this year. 

Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) arrested Tysean Effinger, 23, for the Jan. 25, 2024 murder of Kevin Ardis in the 2100 block of West Muhammad Ali Blvd. 

According to court documents, Ardis, Effinger, and multiple other people were inside an establishment when Ardis became involved in an "altercation" with another man. 

Effinger allegedly hit Ardis in the back of the head with a handgun. When Ardis turned toward Effinger, Effinger fatally shot Ardis one time in the chest then fled. 

LMPD and EMS were called to the scene. Ardis was taken to UofL Hospital where he died from his injuries. 

Effinger was charged with murder and being a convicted felon in possession of a handgun. 

He is currently booked at Metro Corrections.
