Louisville mother arrested after her newborn baby found dead inside trash bag

The 22-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend, just a few days after she told police she gave birth.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville woman was arrested over the weekend after her newborn baby was found dead in a trash bag inside her vehicle.

Louisville Metro police officers responded to the 700 block of Zorn Avenue on Saturday on a report of a baby placed in a bag and hidden inside a closet, according to an arrest citation. Officers located a bag inside a closet with possible blood on it, and covered in flies.

The mother of the child, Daira Meijia Aguilar, 22, told police she moved the body to the trunk of her car prior to their arrival.

She told police she gave birth to her child July 2, wrapped the baby in a blanket and trash bag, and placed the bag in the closet. She was arrested and charged with abuse of a corpse.

On Sunday, LMPD detectives located the baby's body in the trunk of a vehicle Aguilar said she owned. The baby was wrapped in a blanket inside a trash bag, and appeared to be full-term and in the early stages of decomposition, according to an arrest citation.
