LOUISVILLE, Ky. — With every passing car comes a deeply painful truth for one south Louisville family.
“Someone really dear to me was taken from me, and my heart hurts,” Benita Phelps said.
Phelps Is talking about her younger brother, Nick Flore, as she stands just feet from where he lost his life nine days ago.
“I’m emotionally damaged [and] mentally drained,” she explained. “I’m hurt. I’m broken.”
According to a report from Louisville Metro Police, around 10:45 p.m. on Oct. 27, someone driving a stolen car with Ohio tags hit Flore while he was on a moped. Police said the driver then sped off.
“We’re here – left behind, suffering and wondering why we have no answers to who it is or where they’re at,” Phelps said.
Flore’s brother-in-law Russell Low said the two had always been close.
“That life was taken right here,” Low said pointing to the street. “I was close to that life. We was tight. I’m always going to miss that about him.”
Flore leaves behind his fiancé and the rest of his family, who gathered on Sunday near the intersection of Taylor Boulevard and Bicknell Avenue where he died to share a message.
“We want to get justice – justice for our family member,” Low said.
LMPD’s Traffic Unit is handling the ongoing investigation.
Both police and Flore’s family are encouraging anyone who may know something about what happened to use the Anonymous Tip Line at (502) 574-LMPD.
The family is only beginning to think about the path ahead but facing uncertainty and waiting for justice.
They lean on each other while celebrating a life taken so soon.
