LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A federal investigation is underway after a United States Postal Service (USPS) worker was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday by two people.

According to the United States Postal Inspection Service, the incident happened just before noon on Iroquois Avenue in the Southside neighborhood. Two unknown suspects threw a mail carrier to the ground and brandished firearms.

"That's a shame whoever did that," said Yuri Uteria.

Uteria and other neighbors are now on high alert after this incident happened in broad daylight.

"Wow, because like I said, I lived here for 11 years, and I've never had any problems," he said.

The suspects demanded postal keys from the worker, which they handed over. The suspects took off in a dark colored vehicle.

Louisville Metro Police and USPIS responded to the scene. Inspectors canvassed the area and spoke to witnesses.

Uteria and other neighbors are more concerned for their safety. Some already have security cameras and others are in the process of getting some installed after this incident.

"I'm prepared if something like that was going to happen to me or my family, I'll be prepared for it," he said.

But he wished he was there to save the mail carrier.

"My sympathy for the mailman and I wish I would've been there or around to catch who did that, so I would've done something," Uteria said.

The mail carrier was not injured. No arrests have been made.

USPS inspectors are leading the investigation. If you have any information regarding this incident, contact the USPIS hotline at 877-876-2455.
