JEFFERSONTOWN, Ky. — Police arrested a man Tuesday, a week after authorities say he broke into a couple's home and shot them both in their bed.
On July 30 at about 10:20 a.m., Mikal Ballard broke into a home in the 9900 block of Old Six Mile Lane and shot a man and a woman laying in bed, according to the arrest citation.
The man was pronounced dead on scene. The woman was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries to her face, shoulder and hand, all requiring surgery.
Jeffersontown Police Department detectives identified Ballard's car, which was a rental vehicle, using surveillance video. Detectives found additional surveillance footage that identified him as the shooter, according to the citation.
Mikal Ballard is charged with murder, first degree assault and first degree burglary.
