SALEM, Ind. — A man was arrested following a shooting near Salem early Monday morning.
Indiana State Police (ISP) said detectives arrested Tyler Gay and charged him with felony aggravated battery.
During the investigation, police said they discovered that 51-year-old Jed Elliott pulled behind a shed at Gay's home in the early morning hours. Gay saw Elliott pull behind the shed and went to confront him.
The two men were then involved in a physical altercation, during which Gay allegedly fired the pistol and shot Elliott in the arm.
After being shot, ISP said Elliott and his friend fled the scene before stopping on the side of State Road 56 and calling 911.
The Salem Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff's Department responded to the call around 4:30 a.m. When officers arrived, they said they found Elliott behind the wheel of a pickup truck and suffering from a gunshot wound to the arm.
EMS transported him to UofL Hospital where he is expected to survive.
The Washington County Sheriff's Department requested that ISP detectives and Crime Scene Investigators assume the investigation.
Gay is currently booked at the Washington County Jail.
This case is still under investigation.
