LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – A man is dead following a police situation on Colonial Oaks Court, just off of Southside Drive in the Southside neighborhood, at Colonial Oaks Apartments.
The Louisville Metro Police Department's preliminary investigation revealed a man was threatening a woman at the apartment building. LMPD said the man, who was identified as 62-year-old Raad Fakhri Salman, was holding a woman down on the ground and was threatening her with a knife. Salman refused to drop the knife after police commands. An officer fired a weapon to protect the woman and shot Salman.
According to LMPD, Salman was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
LMPD said they had received multiple calls reporting the situation. The reports described the situation as domestic in nature, according to LMPD Chief Conrad. Patrol officers were the first to respond to this and SWAT later responded to assist in the situation.
The woman who was threatened was treated at the scene and was released.
The officer that fired his weapon has been with LMPD since 2008 and was a SWAT member. The officer's name is Brandon Hogan. Hogan was not wearing a body camera. LMPD said there is no camera footage of the shooting but they released audio of the situation on Friday, July 6.
Conrad said the specialty police forces, like SWAT, do not have body cameras yet. Other patrol officers, who have body cameras, were at the situation Thursday. Again, there is no camera footage of the shooting though.
The department's Public Integrity Unit is continuing to investigate.
