Man facing numerous charges after SWAT situation unfolds in southwest Louisville

Police said the ordeal began on Rockford Lane Tuesday afternoon after witnesses saw a man beating and dragging a woman into a pickup truck.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman is okay after a scary incident turned into a SWAT situation in southwest Louisville.

Metro Police said their officers went to a trouble run in the 2800 block of Rockford Lane just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

Witnesses at the scene told police they saw a man beating a woman, dragging her into a small pickup truck and fleeing the scene.

Police said surveillance video help support witnesses claims and LMPD learned the truck was parked outside of a home in the 3400 block of Shanks Lane.

They determined the incident was domestic which prompted the respond of the Domestic Violence Unit, SWAT and other departments.

Witnesses on Shanks Lane told police they saw a woman being dragged into an apartment from a small pickup truck.

LMPD’s SWAT team established a perimeter, got into the apartment and rescued the woman.

Police said the victim was treated by EMS for multiple injuries.

The man, identified as 51-year-old Artis Chenault, was arrested.

Among the charges Chenault is facing include kidnapping, assault, trafficking in a controlled substance.

He’s currently booked at Metro Corrections awaiting arraignment.
