LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man who fatally shot a pregnant woman almost two years ago was sentenced to 30 years in prison on Tuesday.

In July 2022, Devin Minor intentionally shot a pregnant woman in the torso. The woman, Darriona Jones, was taken to the hospital, where she and the unborn child she was carrying at the time were pronounced dead. The unborn baby was Minor's child.

A judge sentenced Minor for first degree manslaughter and second degree fetal homicide. The sentence came after a Louisville jury reached a guilty verdict on both charges on March 28.

“Our hearts go out to the victims’ family, as they lost a mother and her unborn child,” Gerina Whethers, Jefferson County commonwealth's attorney, said. “No matter the case, we will continue to seek justice for our families and the innocent across our city."

Minor was sentenced to 20 years on the manslaughter charge and 10 years on the fetal homicide charge. The sentences will run consecutively for a total sentence of 30 years.

Officials said the sentence imposed was the same as that recommended by the jury at trial.

Minor is not eligible for probation or shock probation and must serve 85% of his sentence before being parole eligible.
