Man shot and killed in Shelby Park neighborhood; Suspect arrested

LMPD is investigating after a man was found shot multiple times Sunday night in Louisville.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man is dead after he was shot multiple times Sunday night in the Shelby Park neighborhood.

Just before midnight, Louisville Metro police responded to a shooting in the 1200 block of South Shelby Street, according to an LMPD news release.

Officers found a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to UofL Hospital where he died shortly after his arrival.

The coroner's office identified the victim as 33-year-old Justin Wells.

A suspect in the shooting, 21-year-old Cody Hedrick, was arrested in the 1200 block of Chester Avenue. He is charged with murder and tampering with physical evidence.

According to the arrest report, the shooting was caught on a nearby surveillance camera. 

Detectives reviewed the footage which showed the suspect and victim get into a fight. 

Hendrick then pulls out a gun, is seen firing multiple rounds and then returning to the alley to collect the shell casings.

When arrested he was mirandized and admitted to detectives to shooting the victim and collecting the shell casings, the report says.

Hendricks was taken to the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections.

The victim in the shooting has not yet been identified.
