LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man was arrested Monday by Louisville Metro Police officers after he reportedly tried to take a newborn baby from a local hospital.
At about 6 p.m., LMPD officers were dispatched to UofL Hospital in downtown Louisville on reports of a man, identified as Christopher Reid, 35, attempting to take a baby without permission from the doctors, nursing staff or the mother.
Officers had to physically remove the child from Reid so hospital staff could provide necessary care to the baby. As officers were taking the newborn, Reid bit an officer on the hand, according to his arrest citation.
After the baby was safely removed, Reid reportedly tightened his boots, tightened his belt and moved a table out of the way. When officers asked Reid if he was about to fight, he responded, "yes."
Officers attempted to place Reid in police custody when he "actively resisted" by pulling his hands away and kicking at the officers, the arrest citation said.
Police officers were able to take Reid to the ground and place handcuffs on him. Even after being restrained, authorities say he continued to kick officers.
According to the arrest citation, "domestic-related" charges are pending against Reid. Police are awaiting information from the mother of the baby.
Police said Reid threatened to harm her when he was released from the hospital.
