JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. — The criminal trial set to begin in southern Indiana this month for Misty Noel has been pushed to the fall.

Special Judge Larry Medlock delayed Noel's trial Monday until Oct. 28. She is facing five counts of theft and five counts of tax evasion -- all felonies.

Misty is the wife of former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel, who is facing 31 felonies, including counts of theft, tax evasion, corrupt business practices, ghost employment, official misconduct and money laundering. Both have pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Their daughter, Kasey Noel, also pleaded not guilty to nine felony charges. Jamey Noel's trial is scheduled to begin in November.

Indiana State Police began investigating Jamey in June 2023 after allegations surfaced of him directing jail staff to work on his personal property and run his personal errands on county time.

The investigation expanded numerous times over the last 13 months. Dozens of search warrants have been conducted and court documents show investigators believe Jamey, Misty and Kasey racked up millions of dollars in unlawful purchases on Utica Township Volunteer Firefighters Association credit cards from 2019-2023.

Jamey was CEO of UTVFA for several years.

Court documents indicate at least $660,000 of the unlawful spending is attributed to Misty. Charges include tuition payments for her children, clothing and jewelry, entertainment, food and other types of purchases.

Last week, a search warrant revealed Misty charged $3,461.36 to Allegiant Travel Company using a UTVFA credit card.

Lead investigator Lt. Jeffrey Hearson has previously stated in court documents the Noels failed to disclose income on their taxes all five years in question, and did not reimburse UTVFA for personal purchases.
