NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS 11) A New Albany family mourns the loss of loved one killed in a hit and run accident.

The accident happened just after 1 a.m. on Thursday in the 2700 block of Charlestown Road near Klemer Lane.

Indiana state police say they have recovered a truck with evidence indicating it struck Ricky Bennett. The owner of the vehicle was questioned and at this time, troopers say that person faces no charges.

As the investigation continues, Bennett's mother wants those who did this to her son to come forward.

'They took his life away from him, they took my future, our future, our family.' said Dwanna Rainboat.

As Dwanna mourns the loss of her 24-year-old son Ricky, she says it is not just the fact that he is dead, but how he died that is haunting her the most.

'How can you run over a person and trade cars and walk away and act like it doesn't matter. Leave him lay there. You could've helped him. Might have been able to save my son if you just stopped and took the time,' added Rainboat.

New Albany police found Bennett's body in the southbound lanes of Charlestown Road around 1:30 Thursday morning. Indiana State Police say he was hit near Old Ford Road by a car and then again by a red pickup truck.

WHAS11 obtained exclusive video from a Marathon gas station near the scene showing a red truck and a light colored Chevrolet Cavalier pulling in near the time of the crash. Two men and a woman get out of the vehicles. Minutes later the woman switches vehicles and they take off. Emergency crews show up not long after.

'Certainly this would weigh on your conscience and you should come forward for your peace of mind and the family's peace of mind involved here.' said Trooper David Scott of the Indiana State Police.

It is piece of mind that Rickey's mom says she's looking for with a painful date just days away.

'Our birthdays are coming up. His is the 11th of January, mine's the 13th. We always celebrate them together. I don't know how I'm going to do that now,' added Rainboat.
