LMPD: Off-duty detective arrested in Clifton neighborhood following DUI

There were no injuries.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Louisville Metro Police Department responded to an off-duty detective who struck a parked car in the Clifton neighborhood early Saturday morning.

The off-duty detective was identified as Kyle Carroll.

Police dispatched to the 2300 block of Frankfort Avenue on reports of a crash and were investigators say the car crossed the center line and struck a parked car.

Officers were informed that the possible occupants of the car were not located at the scene according to the citation.

Once police arrived at the scene and began investigating, Carroll came from behind a building and mentioned two other people fled from the vehicle while keeping a distance between police officers on the scene.

The investigating officer determined the information to be false.

Police say once officers were able to get closer to Carroll, they were able to smell alcohol on his breath with bloodshot glossy eyes.

Officers then asked Carroll how much he had to drink, and Carroll replied saying two beers.

A sobriety test was conducted. It was determined the off-duty detective was under the influence and taken into custody according to the press release.

Carroll blew at BAC 0.135.

He was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence.

Aaron Ellis, a spokesperson for LMPD stated, "LMPD takes this situation very seriously and we are grateful no one was injured. The officer will be placed on administrative leave as we investigate further."
