LMPD: Man wanted in connection to Okolona woman's death turns himself in

Police investigators have accused Rashawn Betts of brutally assaulting, and killing, Amy Skelton earlier this month.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Louisville man accused of murdering a woman inside her Okolona apartment has turned himself in, according to Louisville Metro Police.

Rashawn Betts is charged with murder (domestic violence), first-degree burglary, second-degree assault, and first-degree wanton endangerment. He is accused of brutally assaulting, and killing, Amy Skelton earlier this month.

According to LMPD, officers responded to the Jefferson Green apartment complex on Nov. 8. There, police found Skelton suffering from multiple stab wound.

She was taken to the University of Louisville Hospital, but died shortly after arriving.

Investigators accuse Betts of assaulting Skelton and then stabbing her multiple times, ultimately killing her.

According to his arrest citation, Betts used a handgun to fire multiple rounds at Skelton's apartment door, breaking the lock.

Once inside the apartment, the citation said he struck a second victim, who was also inside the apartment, with the gun. That person grabbed a third person inside the apartment and the two ran outside for help.

Police said Betts then went into the kitchen, grabbed two large kitchen knives and stabbed Skelton multiple times while hitting her with the handgun's magazine. According to LMPD, Skelton and Betts were previously romantically involved.

On Nov. 16, authorities began searching for Betts, issuing a warning to the public that he should be considered "armed and dangerous." Four days later, police say he turned himself into LMPD's Second Division.
