Kentucky high school student facing felonies after teacher finds staple in drink

A student attending Oldham County High School was cited for wanton endangerment and assault.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — An Oldham County High School student was cited after police said she put a staple in her teacher's drink.

On Wednesday, Feb. 7, the school resource officer (SRO) assigned to the school was informed of an incident involving a teacher and a student which occurred the day before, according to an Oldham County Police Department news release.

The SRO was told that a female student placed a staple in a teacher's soft drink bottle while the teacher was away from her desk.

Though the teacher drank from the bottle, she did not ingest the staple. Instead, the soft drink bottle was found with a staple in it. Investigators believe the incident could have caused physical harm.

The student was cited for wanton endangerment (first degree) and assault (third degree) against a school employee or school volunteer. Both are felonies, authorities said.

Since the student is under the age of 18, Oldham County police said they will not be releasing any additional information regarding the incident.

If anyone has any information related to this incident, you're asked to call Oldham County police at (502) 222-1300.
