ORANGE COUNTY, Indiana — Warning: This story contains allegations of child abuse. Reader discretion is advised.
Indiana State Police have charged a southern Indiana couple from Paoli with multiple felonies following a child abuse investigation.
Authorities began investigating Herbert Halbert, 57, and Theresa Halbert, 52, after receiving a concerning report from the Orange County Department of Child Services on Nov. 1, 2024.
ISP said the report contained allegations of battery with bodily injury against four children.
"The investigation revealed that [the Halberts] had allegedly battered their four minor children. The allegations took place in Orange County," an ISP spokesperson said on Tuesday.
An arrest warrant for the couple, and a search warrant for items inside their home, were both executed on Monday, Nov. 25.
The couple was arrested without incident, ISP said. They are being held on bond at the Orange County Jail.
Herbert Halbert has been charged with two counts of domestic battery with bodily injury to a person under 14 years old and three counts of dissemination of matter harmful to minors.
Theresa Halbert is charged with two counts of domestic battery committed in the presence of a child less than 16 years old.
