LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Henry County sheriff's deputy was injured Monday after two law enforcement vehicles crashed into each other while in pursuit of a fleeing suspect.
A Kentucky State Police trooper spotted a Honda passenger vehicle with an illegible license plate just after 2 p.m. on Interstate 71. The trooper activated his emergency lights and sirens, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.
The driver of the Honda, identified later as Wendi Jones, failed to stop and continued driving.
While in pursuit, a KSP trooper struck a Henry County Sheriff's vehicle near the intersection of KY 146 and KY 1606. The sheriff's deputy lost control of their vehicle and went into a ditch, according to a KSP news release.
The sheriff's deputy was taken to the hospital with injuries, but has since been released.
The trooper then executed a "legal intervention" maneuver to stop the vehicle, which left the roadway and struck a tree.
Jones and the passenger, Brandon Skinner, were arrested.
Jones was charged with fleeing or evading police, wanton endangerment 1st degree police officer, possession of methamphetamine, driving with a suspended license and other traffic offenses.
Skinner was cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, and released.
