Shooting outside PRP-Male football game leaves 2 juveniles injured; LMPD investigating

Principals from both PRP and Male High School have responded to the senseless violent incident that happened during Sunday's football game.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Gunshots fired in a parking lot at Pleasure Ridge Park High School has left two people injured.

The incident took place during Sunday’s make up game between PRP and Male High School. Friday’s game was postponed due to weather.

In a letter sent to families, PRP principal Sheri Duff and Male principal Keith Cathey said police had quickly responded to the parking lot and Metro Police were called.

LMPD found one of the juvenile male victims with multiple gunshot wounds. They were taken to an area hospital in critical condition.

Fans were moved under the stands while players were quickly escorted to the locker room for safety.

Game play was suspended, and people were ordered to leave the premises.

A short time later, LMPD said a second juvenile victim had arrived to UofL Mary and Elizabeth Hospital with gunshot wounds. They are believed to have non-life-threatening injuries.

“We do not tolerate violence in any form. As a community, we must work together to support one another. If your student would like to talk with someone about what happened, our counseling and mental health teams are always available,” Duff and Cathey said.

Investigators said they are pursuing leads but are asking residents to check their home video systems for any suspicious persons. LMPD said they had good reason to believe those involved fled the area through residential neighborhoods near PRP.

If you were at the game and can help police with their investigation, you are asked to call (502) 574-LMPD or use their online Crime Tip Portal.

Due to the severity of the injuries one of the victims has, the Homicide Unit will handle the investigation.
