LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Prosecutors are seeking another psychiatric evaluation for the man accused of shooting at then-mayoral candidate Craig Greenberg two years ago.
Attorneys want to determine whether Quintez Brown was insane when he fired several shots into Greenberg’s Butchertown campaign office on Feb. 14, 2022.
According to the new motion, filed on May 8, a previous psychiatric exam in 2023 found “no evidence” indicating Brown was not sane during the incident.
Defense attorneys previously filed a preliminary report from a psychologist's interview with Brown in November 2022, where the doctor expressed "concern" that Brown "suffered from a serious mental illness involving a major mood disorder and psychosis."
The state argues the defense had the psychologist interview Brown last November to determine his “diminished capacity.”
In a report filed this March, the doctor again expressed concern, saying Brown was “suffering from a mental disease or defect such that he was not able to conform his conduct to the requirements of the law.”
Court documents revealed Brown was nearly 10 feet away from Greenberg when he fired the shots. Greenberg said he was grazed by one of the bullets, but he and his staff members were uninjured.
Last March, Brown’s attorneys said they plan to claim insanity during his upcoming trial in August.
Prosecutors are now requesting a new examination to determine Brown's "diminished capacity."
A judge has scheduled a hearing on Friday to discus the latest motion.
Brown is charged with attempted murder and four counts of wanton endangerment. Federal authorities have also charged him with interfering with an election and using a firearm during a criminal act.
