LMPD: Man arrested, charged in connection to homicide near Fourth Street Live!

A 33-year-old man is behind bars nearly a week after a victim was shot to death near South 4th and West Liberty Street in broad daylight on Jan. 21.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A week after a man was found shot to death outside a downtown Louisville business, Metro Police said a person connected to the crime has been arrested.

Jordan Fields, 33, has been charged with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.

On Jan. 21, 37-year-old Chad Smith Sr. was found with multiple gunshot wounds in 300 block of South Fourth Street at West Liberty Street near the Chipotle restaurant.

Surveillance video showed Fields pulling up next to a vehicle Smith was a passenger in and fired 11 shots, killing Smith.

LMPD confirmed Field’s arrest on Saturday.

Arrest records state LMPD’s Violent Crime Unit detectives were conducting surveillance in the 2600 block of Garland Avenue attempting to locate Fields. He was seen getting in the front seat of a vehicle. As the vehicle was stopped in the same area, they said Fields exited the vehicle on foot, running down Garland Avenue.

He was caught a short distance away and police said Fields “actively resisted arrest” and tried to “stand up multiple times” when he was taken in to custody.

LMPD said a K-9 was used due to the seriousness of Fields’ charges. They allege he tried to pull the K-9’s leg “with intent to injure the dog.”

An officer also suffered minor injuries in the incident.

In addition to the homicide charge, Fields is facing fleeing and evading, resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and assault on a service animal.

He is currently being held at Metro Corrections.
