LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) -- A Louisville man accused of killing his mother in their Worthington neighborhood residence is being held in custody on a million-dollar bond.
Gavin Perkins appeared in court Tuesday morning, April 24, answering to the charges.
Police said Perkins' 69-year-old mother, Ruth Perkins, was shot multiple times on Monday on Southern Meadows Road.
A police report said Perkins called 911 and said he was waiting on police to arrive, officers went to the scene but weren't able to make contact. Police received another call, later on.
When police arrived this time, they found Perkins and his deceased mother.
Perkins told authorities "everyone has the right to defend themselves."
Police have not released a motive for the crime.
