LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two men have been arrested after a string of armed robberies across Louisville last Friday.
Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) have charged Dontray Crumes, 21, and Chanchiz Brown, 18, with two counts of robbery and one count of fleeing or evading police.
A third suspect has yet to be arrested, according to St. Matthews Police, who have charged Crumes and Brown for complicity in another instance of armed robbery.
According to Crumes' arrest citation, he admitted to driving Brown and another man around the city to commit at least seven armed robberies over a span of several hours on Nov. 22.
The trio of suspects, who police said all wore blue surgical masks during the crimes, robbed victims at two locations at Mid City Mall in the Highlands around 10 a.m. last Friday.
Another citation said Crumes stopped his vehicle behind a victim's vehicle in the parking lot of a business on Shelbyville Road in St. Matthews around 9:30 p.m. to prevent them from moving.
Police said Brown and the third suspect got out of the vehicle with firearms and demanded the victim give them his wallet, which he did out of fear. The two then got back inside Crumes' vehicle and fled the scene.
According to LMPD, Crumes' vehicle had a temporary tag had been altered to prevent authorities from identifying the suspects. The tag was also later found to be stolen.
Crumes and Brown were arrested around midnight on Nov. 23 at a BP gas station on Taylor Boulevard.
According to LMPD, Crumes tried to jump into a random vehicle and flee from police. The vehicle was stopped and he was eventually detained. Brown tried to flee on foot, but was arrested on the on-ramp to I-264 West.
Inside the vehicle Crumes' tried to flee in, officers found credit cards under his feet which belonged to one of the victims who had been robbed at gunpoint and pistol whipped, according to the citation.
Crumes admitted to using the stolen cards for gas to fill up the vehicle used to commit the armed robberies.
He also told police that he, Brown and the other man were the only three people inside the vehicle during the robberies.
Many of the robberies were caught on surveillance cameras, LMPD added.
Both men were expected to be arraigned Monday morning.
