LEITCHFIELD, Ky. (WHAS11) -- A person is in custody after a 60 miles chase through three counties in Kentucky.
Deputies in Leitchfield said the chase started around 1:30 a.m. Friday in Bullitt County and ended just after 2 a.m. in Grayson County.
The chase, according to a release from KSP, was initiated by Hillview Police after responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint.
The vehicle then fled, merging onto I-65 SB and allegedly started to shoot at officers. The suspect then turned onto Western Ky. Pkwy. all the way to Leitchfield, where the vehicle was disabled by a tire deflation device and police maneuvers.
Officers then attempted to arrest the driver, 28-year-old Timothty E. Hayes of Leitchfield, who authorities said reached for an officer's firearm.
Hayes, after being taken to a hospital and released, was charged with speeding, reckless driving and fleeing or evading police in the first degree.

Troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 4 in Elizabethtown were involved in an overnight pursuit that resulted in an arrest and multiple charges for a Leitchfield, Ky. man. On October 2, 2015 at approximately 2:15 EDST, Bullitt Co. dispatch contacted KSP Post 4 for assistance in a pursuit that was initiated by Hillview Police Dept. after responding to a suspicious vehicle complaint. The vehicle, a 1996 Chevrolet Lumina, fled from police and entered I-65 at the Brooks exit traveling south Interstate 65. The vehicle continued to flee from police on the interstate at which point Bullitt Co. Officers notified their dispatchers that the occupants of the vehicle were shooting at them. KSP Troopers joined the pursuit at approximately the 102 mm on I-65. The suspect vehicle continued to flee south at high speeds. The suspect vehicle exited I-65 at the 91 mm and proceeded West on the Western Ky. Pkwy. where Troopers pursued him for several more miles before entering the city of Leitchfield. Leitchfied Police Department Officers successfully deployed a tire deflation device and a KSP Trooper was able to further disable the vehicle with a low speed maneuver. Upon attempting to arrest the driver, Timothy E. Hayes (28) of Leitchfield, Mr. Hayes reached for KSP Sgt. Kevin Burton's gunbelt and began tugging on it in an attempt to disarm him. A scuffle ensued until Troopers and Officers could get Mr. Hayes in control and under arrest. The suspect was then taken to Twin Lakes Regional Hospital where he was later released and taken to the Grayson Co. Det. Ctr. Mr. Hayes is charged with speeding 26mph or more, Reckless Driving, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st, Disarming a Peace Officer, Resisting Arrest, Disorderly Conduct 1st, Terroristic Threatening 1st, Possession of Controlled Substance 1st, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The case is still under investigation by KSP Lt. Jeremy Thompson. KSP was assisted by Bullitt Co. S.O. Grayson Co. So. and Hardin Co. S.O.
