LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Days after a shooting outside of a west Louisville nightclub that left a person dead and seven others injured, Metro Police believe they have a vehicle that could be connected to the crime.
Metro Police revealed more details of what may have happened outside of the H20 Lounge on West Broadway early Saturday.
Officers responded to the club around 12:45 a.m. Saturday after shots were fired outside of the club.
According to Lt. Les Skaggs, there may have been about 40 people in the vicinity of the club. What led up to the shooting remains unclear.
Gunfire hit eight people including 40-year-old Joseph Bowers of Indianapolis, Indiana. Bowers died from his injuries and another man found outside of the club remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Six other adults injured in the shooting showed up to area hospitals shortly after. LMPD said they are expected to survive.
Police believe there was only one gunman, and they may have fired multiple rounds from a light-colored Chevy Tahoe. LMPD said the model could be in the 2007 to 2014 range. They do not know if there were other occupants in the vehicle.
The vehicle, Skaggs said, may have damage “consistent with gunshots” and could not have made it far from the scene after the shooting.
“We know that somebody knows where this vehicle is,” he said. “We are desperately trying to locate this vehicle because we believe it will help lead us to identifying a suspect in this case.”
Skaggs is urging anyone who may have been outside of the club at the time of the shooting to come forward with information to help them in their investigation. "Their knowledge and input is greatly needed to solve these cases," he said.
The H2O Lounge was supposed to have an event Saturday night but voluntarily closed its doors temporarily while police conducted their investigation.
