LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly ramming into two Louisville Metro Police (LMPD) vehicles during a standoff near Fairdale.
Officers with LMPD's Third Division responded to the Walmart on Outer Loop around 11 a.m. after someone reported a stolen vehicle.
When police arrived, two officers found Raymond Heenan inside the vehicle that was reported stolen. According to his arrest citation, officers tried yelling for Heenan to stop and turned on their emergency lights, but instead, he reversed the car and rammed into the two parked LMPD cruisers.
Authorities said Heenan rammed the vehicles multiple times causing "minor to moderate damage" to the cruisers.
Neither LMPD officers was inside their vehicle at the time, however, the citation said, but both were in the immediate area and Heenan's actions "manifested extreme indifference to the value of human life putting both officers in immediate danger."
The citation went on to say that the front driver's side tire on the stolen vehicle began to smoke and eventually blew, causing the rim to spin on the asphalt.
According to LMPD, Heenan then barricaded himself inside the car. SWAT was called and they were able to extract the suspect from the vehicle and took him into custody.
Police believe alcohol was a factor in the standoff. The citation said officers observed Heenan drinking "multiple cans" of Natural Ice beer and saw multiple empty beer cans in the front passenger area of the vehicle.
Nobody was injured and no shots were fired during the incident, LMPD said.
Heenan is facing numerous charges for the incident, including:
- Receiving stolen property $10,000 or more
- Two counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer
- Four counts of criminal mischief
- Operating a motor vehicle under the influence
- Two counts of resisting arrest
- Operating a vehicle with an expired driver's license
- Failure of non-owner to maintain required insurance
- Possession of open alcohol container in a motor vehicle
- Second-degree escape
- Tampering with prisoner monitor device
- Third-degree assault on a police officer
- Violation of a Kentucky EPO/DVO
