Woman shot New Year's Day; car crashes on the way to hospital

As a woman suffering from a gunshot wound was being driven to the hospital, the car she was in was involved in an accident.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A woman who was shot on Monday morning in the Taylor Berry neighborhood was being transported to a hospital when the car she was in was involved in a wreck.

At about 7 a.m., Louisville Metro Police responded to a shooting in the 3200 block of Utah Avenue, according to an LMPD news release.

Officers couldn't find a victim at the scene; however, authorities were notified that a woman who had been shot in the area was receiving transportation to the hospital by private means.

Officers discovered the vehicle that was transporting the woman wrecked at 7th Street and Magnolia Avenue.

Officers arrived at the scene of the crash and transported the victim to UofL Hospital. Authorities believe she will survive.

The LMPD Non-Fatal Shooting Unit is investigating.
