2 Kentucky historically black colleges team up to recruit teachers

Simmons College and Kentucky State University announced a plan that help those with associate degrees pursue bachelors and graduate degrees

LOUISVILLE, Ky. —  A new partnership aims to add to the diversity in classrooms.

Simmons College and Kentucky State University are teaming up with the state to recruit more black teachers.

The schools are two of the state’s historically black colleges.

Their presidents announced a plan Tuesday to allow associate degrees to be transferred between each school so those who want to be teachers can more easily pursue bachelors and graduate degrees.

“We really have to move forward and so this day is a step in that right direction. We hope to take up teacher education, nursing and criminal justice as our first areas of pursuit,” KSU President Dr. Christopher Brown said.

Jefferson County Public Schools superintendent Dr. Marty Pollio attended the announcement and showed excitement about the partnership.
