LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The U.S. Department of Justice is looking into Jefferson County Public Schools and the class time missed because of late buses.
WHAS11 News received emails sent between JCPS’ general counsel and the DOJ.
According to records, the DOJ questioned the school on average time missed, specifically for multilingual students at Kenwood Elementary.
After repeated late buses, JCPS found most of the students were missing their English language education classes.
According to emails, the DOJ did visit the school earlier this month.
WHAS11 News did reach out to JCPS for comment, and they told us:
"We are responding to the questions the U.S. Attorney's Office is asking. The committed staff at Kenwood is doing its best to ensure that every student has the instructional time they need and deserve regardless of any ongoing issues with late-arriving school buses."
