JCPS releases 'scenarios' of possible start times for next school year

JCPS said any questions not answered during Tuesday's virtual meeting will be answered and posted on a FAQ page on the district's website.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) will host a virtual community information meeting on Tuesday.

It will go over the proposed school start time adjustments as well as a question and answer session JCPS said.

The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. JCPS said any questions not answered during the meeting will be answered and posted on a FAQ page on the district's website.

The proposed start times for the next school year are 7:30 a.m., 8:40 a.m. and 9:40 a.m. 

No high schools would start at 9:40 a.m.

Under “Scenario 1”, 49 schools would have new start times. Twenty-four of those would change by an hour or more.

“Scenario 2” – 87 schools would change their start times. Sixty-three would be by an hour or more.

Officials voted to cut transportation to all magnet and traditional schools in the district except high schools where 75% or more of students qualify for free and reduced lunches in early April.
