LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two Catholic schools in the Louisville-area are among the hundreds of schools across the United States honored with a prestigious award in education.

The U.S. Department of Education recognized 356 schools as National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2024. The program celebrates a school's overall academic performance, including a review of the school's curriculum, culture, leadership and engagement.

St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic School, Archdiocese of Indianapolis, in Floyds Knob, Indiana and St. Albert the Great School in Louisville, Kentucky were among the schools chosen to be honored.

"It is one of the highest honors to be named a National Blue Ribbon School," Indiana Secretary of Education Katie Jenner said in a news release on Tuesday. "This is only possible because of teachers, school leaders, parents and families who are working together to maximize their collective impact for students."

In total, 16 Indiana schools and seven Kentucky schools were recognized as National Blue Ribbon Schools.

"These schools demonstrate what is possible to make an enduring, positive difference in students’ lives," the Department of Education said. "National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective and innovative school practices for state and district educators and other schools throughout the nation."

The Department of Education will formerly recognize this year's Blue Ribbon schools at a ceremony in Washington D.C. on Nov. 7 and Nov. 8, 2024.
