LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Metro Councilman and educator at Jefferson County Public Schools has been taken out of the classroom.
Kumar Rashad, who serves the Metro's District 3, has been reassigned to non-instructional duties, according to JCPS spokeswoman Carolyn Callahan.
Although Callahan confirmed Rashad has been reassigned, she would not provide any further details.
WHAS11 has filed an open records request for more information about his reassignment. Rashad was reached by phone Tuesday, but said he will not comment until the matter is resolved.
On Wednesday, Rashad released a statement confirming there is a pending investigation, however he would not be commenting any further. He said he's "confident the outcome will clear my name."
"Accusation should never be substituted with condemnation," he said. "When this situation ends, and it should end soon, He will vindicate me. Faith over fear always, but until then no further comment."
Rashad was named Kentucky's 2024 High School Teacher of the Year on Sept. 14, 2023. He taught at Breckinridge Metropolitan High School.
The honor came from the Kentucky Department of Education, citing his 18 years of work as an educator.
He is currently looking to serve as vice president of the Jefferson County Teachers Association (JCTA).
