Meredith-Dunn School breaks ground on $4 million expansion

The campus serves students diagnosed with learning differences such as attention deficit disorder and executive functioning challenges.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Friday marked the official groundbreaking on a space that will fully modernize and expand the campus of Meredith Dunn School.

The campus serves students diagnosed with learning differences such as dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, and executive functioning challenges.

At the start of the school year, MDS saw a 14% increase in enrollment and can't fit all of their students. This project will expand their classroom space and reduce an enrollment waitlist.

Principal Robin Johnstone said after operating for 50 years she feels like their work has made an impact on so many.

"Our children come to us many times lacking confidence, they struggle with learning, and our goal is really to build them up as learners, teach them and send them off to local high schools to become very strong people in general so that academically and socially, they do really well," Johnstone said.

A total of $4 million is going into this modernization and expansion project. Other additions include an arts and media lab, STEAM lab, digital support and online learning space, and designated lunchroom.

Construction is scheduled to start at the end of November.
