Here's how you can nominate the 2026 Kentucky Teacher of the Year

The award highlights educators who go the distance giving students the tools necessary to follow their dreams.

KENTUCKY, USA — The Kentucky Department of Education is taking nominations for the 2026 Kentucky Teacher of the Year awards.

The award highlights educators who go the distance giving students the tools necessary to follow their dreams.

Who is eligible?

According to the KDE, any full-time public school teacher in Kentucky with at least three years of experience is eligible.

They can be nominated by students, parents, teaching peers, principals, superintendents or any of from the community who has an interest in honoring educators they believe are outstanding.

“We have 43,000 public school educators who give their hard work and dedication each day and I encourage you to nominate deserving teachers for this award,” Robbie Fletcher, commissioner of education, said in a statement.

Nominations must be submitted by 6 p.m. on Jan. 3, 2025.

Teachers who have been nominated will have until Feb. 15 to submit a formal application.

All applications will be judged by educational professionals across the commonwealth.

The Kentucky Teacher of the Year and winners of the Teacher Achievement Award will be announced in late 2025. The Teacher of the Year will go on to represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year competition.
