JCPS high school given additional security Friday after threat posted on social media

JCPS Police and LMPD are investigating after a social media post referencing a threat against the school was found.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Jefferson County Public Schools officials say a high school will receive additional security Friday after a threat was found against the school.

"We are aware of a social media post referencing a threat against our school," Seneca High School Principal Michael Guy said in a letter to parents.

Louisville Metro Police Department and JCPS Police are investigating the threat.

School officials say if a student posted the threat, they will be disciplined in accordance with the Student Support and Behavior Intervention Handbook and could face criminal charges.

"We encourage you to use this as an opportunity to talk with your student about what they post online and remind them of the seriousness of the words they choose and the images they share. If you or your student sees or hears anything that concerns you for the safety of our school community, please share with a staff member immediately," Principal Guy said.

We will update this story with more information as we learn more.
