Students, parents push back against vote on JCPS 2024-25 transportation plan

The vote was postponed until their meeting on April 16, 2024. Board members voted 6-1 to table that discussion.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A crowd arrived early to Tuesday's Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) Board of Education meeting. They were calling for the board to hold off on voting on the 2024-25 transportation plan.

Which is exactly what the board did.

The vote was postponed until their meeting on April 16, 2024. Board members voted 6-1 to table that discussion.

"It's definitely a relief that they took a pause on it so we could figure out how to move forward and how they want to move forward with everything," a Central High School student said.

Many of the students who arrived at the meeting go to Central.

Their transportation could be cut if the district eliminates buses for most magnet and traditional students.

They were pleased by the delay as community leaders push the board to make a fair and equitable decision.

"We can't talk around it, it has to be spoken that this administration and these board members have to do the right thing," Pastor Tim Findley said.

Leaders said it's now up to the board to talk with the community ahead of the next school board meeting.
