UofL graduates from counseling program will be eligible for licensing

This will remain in effect until a final decision about the program happens around the start of 2024, according to documents.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Some University of Louisville students won't have to worry if they will be able to get their licenses after graduation.

UofL and the Kentucky Board of Licensed Professional Counselors have agreed that the university was in compliance with the accreditation requirements during the university's re-accreditation process.

Now according to court documents, students who have graduated from the University's Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program (CMHCP) since May 14, 2022 will be eligible for licensure in Kentucky as long as they meet the other requirements.

This stems from a lawsuit filed Nov. 29, where in it, UofL said the board was not recognizing the accreditation of the university's counseling program while UofL was in the process of re-applying for re-accreditation.

The decision will remain in effect until a final decision about the program happens around January 2024, the documents say.
